Collect All the Photos at One Place

The first step is to collect all the photographs at one place. This is applicable for both digital and paper photos. Collect photos that are floating loose or crammed into drawers and envelopes. Organize paper photos into stacks while digital photos can be downloaded from the camera or cell phone into the computer into one folder. Right now, don’t bother about sorting or arranging. Just focus on gathering all the pictures into one place.

Organize According to Date, Place or People

The next step is sorting and organizing according to date, place, people or event. Decide upon a common factor and then sort. For instance, all photos of a particular year go together. Then, in that year, sort according to month. Next, organize photos according to people, place or events. Devise a system that would be most comfortable for you to work with. Use the same system for digital photos, organizing the pictures into folders and sub-folders.

Decide on Storage Options

Photo organizing involves storing photos appropriately. Once all the photos have been sorted and organized into neat stacks. Decide on how you want to store them. For paper photos, you could choose traditional albums while for digital pictures you could use photo organizer software, such as, Picasa2, Irfanview or Xnview or organize and store photos online at sites like Flickr.

Start Storing and Arranging

The final step in organizing photos is to store and arrange them appropriately. Once the sorting and choice of storage options has been made, it is time to store them. This means, organizing digital photos using the photo organizer software and also, burning them on a CD as a back up. For printed pictures, store them in albums or boxes. Label albums, boxes and CDs. This would make it easier to add newer pictures to existing collections.

These easy ways to organize photos and pictures would make life so much simpler by keeping all your treasured memories together at one place. Not just that, it would also make taking pictures a greater joy since you would know that everything that you click would have a place to go to. So, go ahead and use these steps to organize all those photos that have been lying around for ages.

Good suggestions for organizing prints. A good idea to also scan at least the better prints while organizing them. Then a consolidated digital image library can lead to many creative ways to use online services to share older print images together with newer digital images. Organizing the consolidated digital image library with keyword tags and such can also make life easier when one goes looking for a particular photo for a project.
