Creating extra storage space in the house can be tough, especially, when cramped for space. Here are five ways to store more and save space at the same time.

Storage space is needed to accommodate growing needs of a family, making it essential that space be used economically and to the best possible extent. While it is important to declutter and get rid off things to free up space, there are times when extra storage becomes a necessity. It can be the arrival of a new baby, a grown-up child who moves back home or houseguests who stay for more than a month.

Here are five ways to create more storage and free up space, easily and simply.

Use Storage Boxes

Storage boxes come in a variety of shapes, types and sizes. Cardboard storage boxes are the best and most easily available option. Cardboard boxes can be used to hold many things, labeled and stacked in the garage or basement; however, they are prone to damage caused by water, mold and rodents. If long-term storage is required, it will be a good idea to invest in stackable Rubbermaid boxes to keep stored items in good condition.

Use Drawers and Drawer Organizers

Drawers are, probably, the most ill-used storage area. When things are just dumped into drawers, it becomes difficult to find anything and important documents and other things may be ruined. Using drawer organizers or dividers will take care of this problem. There will be separate sections for like items and nothing will ever get misplaced or lost. Closet drawers can, also, be organized using dividers and optimized for storing useful items.

Use Storage Racks

Storage racks are great for keeping boxes and baskets of appliances, seasonal items, household cleaners, tools and even, toys. Arrange the racks with the boxes neatly and in a particular order. The order can be according to content type, season or usage. Alternatively, if there are too many random boxes, simply label them and arrange them alphabetically.

Optimize Shelving Storage

Closet shelves and those in other cabinets are often, under utilized or ineffectively organized. Optimize shelving storage by stacking like items together, labeling the shelves and by using the back of the shelves to store rarely used items. This step will keep the more important things right in front and provide easy access to them.

Use Trays and Baskets

Baskets and trays are available in a variety of sizes and types. Wicker baskets, plastic or wooden trays and wire baskets can be used to store knickknacks in drawers, closet shelves and kitchen cabinets. Labeling them will make it easy to find things in a hurry and everything will look neat and orderly. Baskets and trays are a great way to optimize shelving storage since they can be used to hold several small items together.

These five ways will provide multiple storage options and make creating extra storage space a piece of cake. Keep some or all of them always available and storing things will never be a problem again. So, welcome guests, children and babies with a peaceful mind knowing that every single, extra item will be stored properly and easily.
